WHAT WE KNOW
Murray Ohio Manufacturing Company was one of the dominant American producers of pressed steel pedal cars from the 1940s through the 1970s, supplying department stores and toy retailers nationwide. Their fire department models are among the most collectible in the pedal car category. This example retains its original red and white paint with age-appropriate wear and patina, solid steel body construction, and the original front bell. Dusty from storage but structurally sound. THE STORY
Murray pedal cars were built at a time when children's toys were made from the same materials as the vehicles they imitated — pressed steel, real paint, working parts. A fire department model carried particular weight: the bell rang, the body gleamed red, and for a few years it was the most important vehicle in the neighborhood. The ones that survive do so because someone kept them. This one made it.
