THE FIND
A quartz crystal cluster on natural matrix, 264g — clear to milky crystal points rising in a tight cluster from their original stone bed, preserving the exact geological moment they formed. Light rising from stone, still connected to its origin.

WHAT WE KNOW
Quartz (silicon dioxide, SiO₂) is the most abundant mineral in Earth’s continental crust and one of the most widely occurring crystal forms. Matrix specimens — where the crystal cluster remains attached to the surrounding host rock — preserve the natural relationship between the crystals and their geological context, showing the surface from which the points grew. Clear to milky coloration in quartz reflects varying degrees of fluid inclusion content during crystal growth: perfectly clear quartz formed in very pure conditions; milky quartz formed with more fluid inclusions trapped in the crystal structure. This specimen weighs 264g with the matrix included. Locality not independently verified.

THE STORY
A quartz cluster on matrix is a fundamentally different object from a loose cluster — the matrix anchors the specimen to a place. The stone base is not just a display platform; it is the rock from which the quartz grew, the geological substrate that was present when the crystals formed. Removing the matrix would produce a cleaner specimen and a lesser one. At 264g the combined weight of crystal and matrix gives this piece real presence and stability on a shelf or surface.

WHY WE CHOSE IT
The crystal development is clean and the matrix provides strong visual contrast — the earthy, rugged base against the crystalline points above it is the defining quality of a good matrix specimen. At 264g it has genuine shelf presence. A foundational piece for a mineral display.
