THE FIND
A large druzy quartz geode, 1565g (3.45 lb) — a substantial cavity lined with thousands of tiny quartz crystal points, each catching the light at a different angle. From the outside, it looks like stone. Then the stone opens. Inside is a field of crystals that grew in silence, slowly, patiently, until the darkness held its own sky.

WHAT WE KNOW
Geodes form when a cavity develops within rock — typically basalt, limestone, or sedimentary rock — and mineral-rich fluids later move through it, depositing minerals along the cavity walls over geological time. In a quartz-lined geode, silica-rich groundwater deposits chalcedony on the walls first, followed by quartz crystals growing inward. “Druzy” describes a surface covered with many small, densely packed crystal points rather than a few large faces — the sparkle is the natural geometry of thousands of mineral surfaces reflecting light simultaneously. THE STORY
Every tiny crystal point in this geode formed independently within the cavity, yet together they create one continuous surface. Each point grew outward from the cavity wall toward the open center, competing for space and silica-rich fluid as it went. The result is not designed — it is emergent: the collective output of thousands of individual crystal growth events, each following the same basic physics, producing an interior that looks coordinated because the physics are consistent. That is what makes a geode interior feel like a landscape. It is one, in its way.
