Celestite crystallizes in the orthorhombic system, typically as tabular or prismatic crystals with a vitreous luster. It most commonly forms in sedimentary environments — particularly evaporite sequences, limestone formations, and in association with gypsum, anhydrite, and sulfur deposits. The largest celestite geodes in the world are found near Put-in-Bay, Ohio, where a cave known as Crystal Cave contains enormous celestite crystals up to 18 inches across.
