The characteristic green to yellow-green color is produced by iron and magnesium in the mineral structure. Serpentine is relatively soft (Mohs 3–4) and has a waxy to greasy luster. This specimen is presented as serpentine based on its appearance and characteristics. The material identification has not been independently laboratory verified.
